Teeth dentures, also known as dental dentures or simply dentures, are removable prosthetic devices used to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They are designed to restore the appearance and functionality of natural teeth, allowing individuals to speak, eat, and smile with confidence.

Dentures are typically made of a combination of materials, including acrylic resin, metal frameworks, and sometimes porcelain or ceramic for a more natural appearance. They consist of artificial teeth set in a gum-colored base that sits on the gums and is supported by the surrounding tissues of the oral cavity.

There are two main types of dentures:

  1. 1.  Complete Dentures: These are used when all the natural teeth are missing in either the upper (maxillary) or lower (mandibular) arch, or both. Complete dentures are custom-made to fit the individual's mouth and provide a full set of teeth.
  2. 2.  Partial Dentures: These are used when some natural teeth remain in the mouth. Partial dentures are designed to fill in the gaps created by missing teeth and are attached to the existing teeth using metal clasps or precision attachments. They help restore both function and aesthetics.

Getting dentures typically involves multiple visits to the dentist or prosthodontist. The process involves taking impressions of the mouth, creating models, and customizing the dentures to achieve a proper fit, bite, and aesthetic appearance. Adjustments may be necessary to ensure optimal comfort and functionality.

It's important to take care of dentures by following proper oral hygiene practices. This includes cleaning them regularly, removing them at night, and soaking them in denture cleaning solutions. Regular dental check-ups are also important to ensure the dentures fit well and the overall oral health is maintained.

In some cases, dental implants may be used to provide additional stability and support for dentures. Implant-supported dentures involve placing dental implants in the jawbone and attaching the dentures to these implants, enhancing their stability and reducing the risk of slippage.

If you are considering dentures, it's best to consult with a dentist or prosthodontist who can evaluate your specific dental needs and recommend the most suitable treatment options for you.
